Adeleke Quits PDP Ahead of 2026 Governorship Race

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move coming months before the party begins its 2026 governorship primaries.

A resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the Ward 2 PDP chairman in Sagba Abogunde, Ede, indicated that Adeleke’s decision was driven by what he described as the ongoing leadership crisis within the party’s national structure.

In the letter titled “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”, Adeleke stated: “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.”

He expressed appreciation to the party for the platform it provided throughout his political journey, adding: “I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (representing Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”

Adeleke’s exit marks a significant shift in Osun’s political landscape and raises fresh questions about his next political move ahead of the 2026 polls.
