The Senate has wrapped up the screening of the three ambassadorial nominees recently presented by President Bola Tinubu for confirmation. Those screened include Kayode Are (Ogun), Aminu Dalhatu (Jigawa), and Ayodele Oke (Oyo).
The nominees appeared before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Sani Bello, where they were questioned on their professional experience, past service, and foreign policy perspectives. The committee’s report will now proceed to the Senate plenary for consideration and possible confirmation.
During the session, Senator Bello noted that Ayodele Oke had satisfactorily addressed all previous allegations linked to him. Oke, a former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, is also a past ambassador to the Commonwealth Secretariat in London and holds a degree from Emory University in Atlanta.
Aminu Dalhatu previously represented Nigeria in South Korea during the Buhari administration, while Kayode Are served as Director-General of the State Security Service from 1999 to 2007, later assuming the role of National Security Adviser in 2010. Are holds a First Class degree in Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
The nominees await final approval by the Senate.
