President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Olugbemisola Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, with her tenure set to commence on January 10, 2026, for a four-year term.
Odusote, who currently serves as Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, will make history as the first woman to head the institution since its founding in 1962. She will take over from Isa Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure ends on January 9, 2026.
A seasoned legal scholar, Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later obtained a Master of Laws degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law, before completing a doctorate in law at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, where her research focused on public law and the administration of justice.
She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since held several key positions, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. Her academic career also includes a brief stint as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.
Odusote has published widely in both local and international law journals and has presented papers at numerous legal education conferences. She has also served on various committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
In her new role, Odusote will oversee the Law School’s academic and administrative operations and provide strategic leadership across all campuses, while serving as a key link between the institution and major legal bodies, including the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
