Two members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Gombe State House of Assembly have crossed over to the All Progressives Congress (APC), consolidating the ruling party’s hold on the legislature.
The lawmakers, Gabriel Fushison of Kaltungo West Constituency and Malon Nimrod-Yari of Shongom Constituency, were formally received into the APC by Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
They were accompanied to the governor’s office on Wednesday by the Speaker of the House, Abubakar Luggerewo, his deputy, Sadam Bello, and other principal officers of the Assembly.
Explaining their defection, the legislators said their decision was influenced by what they described as the governor’s inclusive approach to governance and his record of performance across the state. They noted that, despite being in the opposition, they were not marginalised and that their constituencies continued to benefit from government projects.
According to them, the administration’s fairness, openness and commitment to balanced development convinced them to align with the ruling party.
Governor Yahaya, in his remarks, said the move reflected growing confidence in his administration and its policies. He assured the new members of equal treatment and full integration within the APC, describing the party as a vehicle for unity and development.
The governor also commended the leadership of the House of Assembly for its cooperation with the executive, saying such collaboration was essential for peace and progress in the state.
With the latest defections, the APC is reported to now hold 23 of the 24 seats in the Gombe State House of Assembly.
