The African Democratic Congress has inaugurated a 20-member Membership, Revalidation, Mobilisation and Registration Committee to coordinate a nationwide membership exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee was inaugurated on Tuesday in Abuja by the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, who said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the party’s structures and building a credible, verifiable membership database across the country.
Mark said the exercise would help harmonise existing records, eliminate discrepancies and provide a solid foundation for the party’s future electoral engagements. He added that the committee is expected to submit an interim report to the National Working Committee within 30 days.
Kashim Imam was named chairman of the committee, with Aisha Yesufu appointed as deputy chairman and Sekonte Davies as secretary. Other members include Senator Nurudeen Abatemi, Hon. Yomi Arokodare, Remi Fanibe, Adljat Ojelade, Hon. Abeje Egwa, Hon. Abas Anas Adamu, Dr Tanko Yunusa, Paul Lawrence Okorie, Dr Mrs Esther Irebo, Hon. Abdullahi Maibasira, Sir Stanley Ekezie, Prof. Festus Arunaye, Jibrin Sabo Keana, Hon. Mina Horsfall, Hon. Shehu Mohammed Koko, Chief Gbazuagu Nneke Gbazuagu and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
In his address, Mark described a strong and well-documented membership as the backbone of any political party, determining its legitimacy, reach and electoral strength. He said the committee’s mandate includes registering new members nationwide, revalidating existing membership, and developing both electronic and manual registration systems.
He explained that the committee would also design a nationwide mobilisation strategy with emphasis on polling units, wards, local governments and states, recommend standardised procedures for continuous registration, and work closely with state and local party leaders to ensure smooth implementation.
Mark stressed that the exercise was meant to be inclusive rather than restrictive, urging committee members to discharge their duties with integrity, transparency and fairness.
“This assignment must be carried out without bias or favouritism. The goal is to strengthen, organise and reposition the ADC to meet the expectations of Nigerians who desire credible leadership and democratic governance,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Kashim Imam assured party leaders that the panel would carry out its responsibilities diligently and with a strong sense of purpose.
He said the ADC was conceived as a grassroots movement and pledged that the committee would work to return the party to ordinary Nigerians.
“For too long, the average Nigerian has been marginalised. We want the masses, the poor and the downtrodden to take ownership of this party,” Imam said, adding that the committee would work tirelessly to mobilise and register members across all parts of the country.
He maintained that the ADC aims to ensure fairness and shared prosperity, arguing that Nigeria’s resources should translate into improved living conditions for all citizens.
The ADC was adopted in July 2025 as the platform for a coalition of opposition leaders seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. Since then, under the leadership of David Mark as national chairman and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary, the party has intensified efforts to expand its presence and support nationwide.
