The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed satisfaction over the defection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), assuring him of support as he aligns with the ruling party.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, made the position known on Friday during an interview in Jos.
The APC had on Thursday formally announced the defection of the Plateau State governor. The disclosure was made by the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, at the APC’s 14th National Caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Speaking on the development, Bamaiyi said the party was not taken aback by the governor’s decision, describing the APC as an inclusive political platform open to all qualified Nigerians.
He noted that the party was prepared to support the governor in his new political move, adding that political affiliation remains the constitutional right of every citizen.
According to him, while reactions to the defection may vary, the decision should be respected, stressing that differing opinions are a normal part of democratic engagement.
Bamaiyi described the governor’s entry into the APC as an advantage to the party, pointing out that it strengthens its numerical and political standing in the state.
He also expressed confidence in Governor Mutfwang’s leadership capacity, noting that the governor is experienced in party politics and understands the dynamics required to carry stakeholders along.
The APC spokesman reiterated that the party would extend the necessary cooperation and support to ensure the governor’s smooth integration and success within the party.
