Governors Adeleke, Kefas Missing as PDP Convention Opens in Ibadan

The absence of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his Taraba State counterpart, Agbu Kefas, drew attention on Saturday as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) commenced its national convention in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The event is taking place amid internal turmoil, with the party proceeding in defiance of two separate court rulings that ordered a halt to the exercise. Despite the legal headwinds, the faction led by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum pressed ahead, leaning on a counter-judgement obtained from an Oyo State High Court that permitted the convention to hold.

As proceedings got underway, several governors were visibly present, including Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, and the host governor, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

The absence of Adeleke and Kefas added to the air of uncertainty surrounding the convention, which many observers see as a critical test of the party’s cohesion amid widening internal disagreements.
