The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Convention held on November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, in a ruling that deepens the party’s internal crisis.
In its decision delivered on Friday, the court also restrained Kabiru Turaki and others elected at the convention from presenting themselves as national officers of the party, dealing a setback to the faction that emerged from the exercise.
Despite lingering internal disagreements, the PDP had proceeded with the two-day elective national convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan. Branded #Ibadan2025, the event drew thousands of delegates, party leaders and supporters from across the country.
The court ruling is the latest development in a series of legal disputes arising from leadership struggles within the party, which have resulted in parallel factions and court cases challenging the legitimacy of the PDP’s national leadership.
Reacting to the judgment, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said the PDP would await the final outcome at the appellate courts, expressing confidence that its position would ultimately be upheld.
In a statement posted on the party’s official X handle on Friday, Ememobong urged members to remain calm, assuring them that the ruling does not signal the end of the ongoing leadership process.
He said the Kabiru Turaki-led PDP that emerged from the Ibadan convention remains intact pending a definitive ruling by the appellate courts.
According to him, party members should remain steadfast, stressing that there is no cause for alarm and that the party’s rebirth movement remains on track.
As the legal battle moves to the appellate level, attention within the party remains fixed on the courts, with many viewing the outcome as critical to the PDP’s future direction ahead of forthcoming political activities.
