El-Rufai Registers with African Democratic Congress After Leaving APC

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a new phase in his political career months after his exit from the All Progressives Congress.

El-Rufai completed his registration and received his ADC membership card at the party’s U/Sarki Ward office in Kaduna State. He was accompanied by loyal supporters, including former aides and several local government chairmen who had worked closely with him during his time in office.

His move follows his resignation from the APC on March 10, when he cited an expanding rift between his principles and what he described as the party’s declining commitment to its founding ideals. In his resignation letter, the former FCT Minister criticised the APC leadership, accusing it of straying far from the progressive foundation upon which the party was built.

“Developments in the last two years confirm that there is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party,” he had written.

El-Rufai said he had repeatedly sounded the alarm—both publicly and behind closed doors—on the party’s direction but claimed that his concerns were dismissed.

A key figure in the 2013 merger that birthed the APC, El-Rufai lamented that the party he helped build had drifted from its original vision, prompting his decision to seek alignment with a new political platform.
