Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has sharply criticised the Kano State Government for calling for his arrest, describing the move as reckless and a sign of poor governance.
The state government, through the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, had earlier accused Ganduje of making inflammatory remarks on insecurity and allegedly planning the recruitment of 12,000 Hisbah operatives as part of a militia-style group. The government urged security agencies to investigate and arrest him.
Responding in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje dismissed the allegations as baseless, saying they exposed what he called Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s desperation and inability to address the state’s mounting security challenges.
“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” Ganduje said.
He claimed that residents in Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa and several other communities remained vulnerable to attacks, alleging that the governor had neither visited nor shown support to affected families.
Ganduje contrasted his tenure with the current administration, insisting that his eight years in office were marked by peace and stability, a record he said earned national recognition.
He maintained that he had never been linked to violence or any action capable of destabilising the state, arguing that the governor should prioritise governance over political feuds.
“Leadership is demonstrated through purposeful action, responsibility, and compassion, not through press conferences and frivolous statements aimed at diverting public attention from one’s failures,” he said.
