Heavy Security Presence as Rival PDP Factions Converge on Abuja Headquarters

A heavy deployment of security personnel surrounded the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Tuesday as two opposing factions, each asserting its legitimacy, prepared to hold separate meetings within the same complex.

Members of the National Working Committee loyal to Samuel Anyanwu arrived early at the Wadata Plaza office, with Anyanwu maintaining that he remains the duly recognised national secretary until his tenure ends in December. He settled into his office despite the intensifying leadership tussle.

Speaking to reporters, Anyanwu confirmed that he requested the security presence. He said the party traditionally invites security agencies whenever major meetings are planned, citing the need to prevent disorder.

He noted that the personnel were also positioned to keep out what he described as “intruders,” a pointed reference to the Turaki-led faction, which had also announced its intention to meet at the same venue.

The standoff underscores deepening tensions within the party, as both groups continue to assert control over its administrative structure.
