Kano politician and lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, has formally returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling renewed alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Jibrin’s defection comes barely two months after his expulsion from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for alleged anti-party activities and failure to meet membership obligations. His exit marks another high-profile departure from the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Making the announcement on Monday via his verified social media accounts, Jibrin said his decision followed wide consultations with his supporters, who unanimously resolved to rejoin the APC and rally behind President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“Today, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in Kofa, Bebeji, Kano. Together, we have resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, return to the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office,” Jibrin said.
He disclosed that over 2,000 Islamic clerics gathered to offer special prayers for President Tinubu, as well as for peace and prosperity in Kiru/Bebeji and Nigeria at large.
In a video clip shared from the homecoming rally, the fourth-term lawmaker emphasized that his decision to defect alongside his supporters was to demonstrate strength and unity.
“I brought my people this time to correct the mistake I made before. I don’t want anyone to say I defected alone or without supporters,” he declared amid cheers from the crowd.
Jibrin, a long-time ally of President Tinubu, played a key role in the APC’s campaign structure during the 2023 elections before switching to the NNPP. His return is expected to further strengthen the ruling party’s base in Kano State as the political landscape ahead of 2027 begins to take shape.
