Labour Party Elects New Executives in Sokoto, Rallies Members Ahead of 2027

The Labour Party in Sokoto State has elected a new set of executive officers following a peaceful state congress held on Saturday, with party leaders urging members to close ranks and build a stronger platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Overseeing the exercise, Mr. Yemi Adeyemi of the party’s National Planning Committee commended delegates for their orderly conduct and urged them to remain united. He stressed that cohesion within the party would be crucial as preparations for the next electoral cycle intensify.

State Labour Party leader, Mr. Ifeanyi Ezeagu, described the congress as a significant step toward rebuilding and repositioning the party for victory. He claimed that previous elections in the state had not reflected the true will of the electorate, insisting that residents were aware of what transpired. He encouraged members to return to their wards and expand grassroots mobilisation to strengthen the party’s base.

Ezeagu added that defections to the ruling party should not discourage faithful members, alleging that such moves were often driven by personal interests rather than ideological commitment. According to him, the Labour Party in Sokoto is “back on track” and determined to offer a viable alternative to what he described as governance that favours a select few.

Outgoing state secretary, Alhaji Umar, praised delegates from all 23 local government areas for their peaceful participation in the congress.

The newly elected state chairman, Comrade Abubakar Yawale, pledged to run an inclusive and transparent administration. He promised to work toward positioning the party to take control of the Sokoto State Government House in 2027 and urged members to support the new executive team.

Delegates expressed confidence that the new leadership would strengthen the Labour Party’s presence and influence across the state.
