Former Kaduna State governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has convened a closed-door meeting with opposition lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The gathering brought together PDP members of the National Assembly and the Kaduna State House of Assembly, with discussions centered on strengthening party cohesion and mounting a stronger challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Makarfi, a former acting national chairman of the PDP and ex-secretary of the party’s Board of Trustees, is aligned with the faction of the party led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki at the national level.
Announcing the outcome of the meeting on his official Facebook page, Makarfi said the lawmakers agreed to work in unity and collaborate with other party leaders at both state and national levels as they build momentum toward the next elections.
The meeting comes on the heels of recent defections by some PDP lawmakers in Kaduna State, including Senator Sunday Marshall Katung of Kaduna South, who joined the APC alongside a number of House of Representatives and State Assembly members.
Despite these losses, Makarfi expressed optimism that the PDP remains strong and capable of reclaiming political ground in 2027 through collective effort and strategic planning.
