The National Publicity Secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Ladipo Johnson, has announced that the party will adopt a consensus approach for its ward-level elections nationwide.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, Johnson disclosed that the decision has already been communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He further revealed that the electoral commission recently concluded a verification exercise of the party’s structures at its national secretariat, describing the process as successful.
According to him, the outcome of the exercise affirms the legitimacy of the National Working Committee led by Bala Mohammed.
Johnson also rejected claims by expelled members challenging the authority of the current leadership, characterising their legal efforts as baseless.
He cited a ruling by the Federal High Court of Nigeria, which he said had already established that the individuals in question were no longer members of the party.
The spokesperson accused the dissenting group of withholding critical information in ongoing legal proceedings, adding that their actions were aimed at sustaining what he described as a failed political agenda.
He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court of Nigeria would ultimately settle the leadership dispute in favour of the current party executives.
Johnson also called on Nigerians, particularly young people and professionals, to participate in the party’s ongoing membership registration exercise across wards and local government areas nationwide.
