Business magnate and socialite Obi Cubana has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in securing the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, stressing that peace and stability among the Igbo people depend on his freedom.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Cubana highlighted growing insecurity and unrest in Nigeria, citing incidents such as the designation of the country as a “Country of Particular Concern” by the United States, the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, attacks on worshippers in Kwara State, the killing of a Brigadier General, Kanu’s life sentence, and the recent abduction of over 50 students from a Catholic school in Niger State.
“These events have left everyone perplexed and downcast,” he said, noting that the current climate is tense and worrying for citizens.
Cubana disclosed that he and other concerned Nigerians have engaged with key political figures, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President’s son, discussing issues such as insecurity, taxation, ease of doing business, customs, FIRS, NAFDAC, and political strategies that could facilitate Kanu’s release.
“One thing is very clear: no Igbo man or woman will have peace if MNK does not regain his freedom, and Ala Igbo will never be the same again,” he said. “Tempers are high, but we all want MNK out, and we will never rest until he is free.”
He urged President Tinubu to respond to the public outcry, emphasizing that constructive dialogue and negotiations are essential to creating a Nigeria where citizens can live and operate freely regardless of ethnicity, religion, or culture.
“Constructive agitations remain the bedrock upon which great societies are built, but solutions will only be found at the negotiation table,” Cubana added.
He concluded the statement with a message of solidarity to his fellow Igbos: “Dalu nu, umunne m!”
