The political crisis in Rivers State appears to be de-escalating after a late-night meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Reports on Monday indicated that the President met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and other influential stakeholders from the state.
Although officials have not released details of the discussions, sources said Governor Fubara later accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, following the talks.
Accounts of the meeting suggested that the governor appealed to the minister and pledged to maintain respect going forward, a development observers interpret as a sign of possible rapprochement among the state’s leading political actors.
