President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday extended his condolences to the family of the late former President Shehu Shagari following the passing of his only surviving widow, Hajiya Sutura Shagari.
The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a visit to the Shagari residence, described her death as a significant loss to the nation. He noted that Hajiya Sutura lived a life marked by modesty, devotion and commitment to the well-being of others.
Shettima offered prayers for the repose of her soul, asking Allah to grant her a place in Jannatul Firdaus. He also prayed for comfort for the Shagari family, the government and people of Sokoto State as they mourn.
The President urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in prayers for peace, unity and stability across the country, emphasizing the importance of national cohesion in difficult times.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Capt. Bala Shagari (rtd), the eldest son of the late former President and District Head of Shagari, conveyed the family’s appreciation for the President’s gesture and prayers. He also expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State for providing medical support to their late mother and for his continued assistance.
Governor Aliyu, who received the delegation, thanked President Tinubu for honouring the Shagari family during their bereavement.
