Tinubu Honours Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal With NEAPS 2025 Award for Governance and Security Reform

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) 2025 in the Governance and Security Reform category on Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal. The President was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, during the award ceremony held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.

A statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, noted that the event was organised by The Best Strategic Media (TBS) in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Established in 2022, NEAPS aims to celebrate individuals who have made notable and sustained contributions to national development.

According to the statement, Governor Lawal’s recognition stems from his administration’s reform efforts across several sectors in Zamfara State. These include restoring order within the civil service, improving workers’ welfare, and ensuring that retirees receive their entitlements after years of delay.

During the presentation, NEAPS highlighted several achievements recorded under Lawal’s administration, including the payment of over N15 billion in outstanding gratuities accumulated over 13 years. Also acknowledged was the increase in the state’s minimum wage from N7,000 to N70,000, the introduction of a 13th-month salary for workers, and other welfare incentives.

Other accomplishments referenced in the award include major urban renewal initiatives, the reconstruction and upgrading of more than 500 public schools, and extensive improvements to the health sector, such as the complete renovation and equipping of all general hospitals across the state.

Governor Lawal’s approach to security was also emphasised, particularly the creation of the Community Protection Guards, provision of operational vehicles and security equipment, and continued logistical support to security agencies operating in the state.

The statement expressed confidence that the recognition will further encourage the governor to intensify his efforts to rebuild and reposition Zamfara State.
