Tinubu Meets Buni, Geidam As Security, Political Talks Gather Pace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday held talks with Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, and the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, the meeting focused on security and development concerns affecting Yobe State.

The discussions were said to centre on strengthening cooperation between the Federal Government and the state, particularly in improving infrastructure and enhancing security across the North-East region.

The President reportedly commended both officials for their roles in sustaining stability in Yobe and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting subnational initiatives aimed at improving living conditions.

However, sources familiar with the meeting indicated that political succession ahead of the 2027 governorship election also featured in the deliberations.

Governor Buni is expected to conclude his second term in 2027, and while there was no official confirmation of succession talks, the presence of Geidam, a former governor of the state, has sparked speculation about ongoing consultations within the All Progressives Congress.

Political observers note that such engagements are common as stakeholders begin early alignments ahead of election cycles.

Meanwhile, several potential aspirants are reportedly positioning themselves for the governorship race. Among those mentioned are Ibrahim Bomai, former Minister of Power Abubakar Aliyu, Musa Mustapha, former Senate President Ahmed Lawan, and the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Wali.

Others include Kashim Tumsah, who is said to be gaining traction among youth groups.

With political activities gradually intensifying, further consultations among stakeholders are expected as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
